This is a collage I made after mom died. I keep it on my dresser where I can always see it.
Mom and Dad

Mom and Ryan

Meridy, Mom and Kiley
It has been 13 years and it still seems like yesterday. I still remember what mom's face looked like when we said good-bye. At first she looked so sad. . . like it really was going to be hard to be away from all of us, but then there was the peace. I think that is what helped me through the next few hours, days and years. She was a wonderful mom, even if we didn't see eye to eye every day. I know she loves me, but more importantly I love her. We argued a lot and she told me, more than once, that my spirit left me at age 13 and didn't come back until I was 19. That is a long time to live with someone without a spirit. She did it and I know she never regretted it, she probably wanted to beat me a few times though.
Coming home from my mission a few weeks early was the best thing I ever did. To help take care of her and spend the last few weeks with her was a true blessing. She never wanted me to regret coming home early or blame her and I never have. I think she would be very proud of all her children, their spouses and her grandchildren. She once told me the hardest part about dying was knowing that she was going to miss all the fun and laughter. It makes me cry to know how much she has missed, we would give anything to have her with us again. I am not writing this to make myself cry, but to remember MOM. She was the best mom ever and I can't wait to see her again. Now I just need to live my life so that I can.
So this is in memory of Elva Beth Clawson Mortensen 1940-1997. You are loved and will never be forgotten!
